On the initiative of the Music Academies of Diksmuide and Ieper and the Municipal Conservatory of Bruges, and with the support of ComAv, GeNeCO and the Canon Cultuurcel, 53 composers were given a commission to compose 150 new ‘Souterliedekens’, arrangements based on the original psalms by Jacob Clemens non Papa, and done in the personal contemporary style of each of the composers. Vermote composed new psalms for vocal ensemble on the original cantus firmus of psalm XX, XXI, CXXXVI, CXXXVII and CXXXVIII, and took the cantus firmus of psalm CXXXVII as the musical starting point for a saxophone quartet.
